You’re Going to Hell

As Christians, I think we often do the gospel a great disservice by indicating that doing x, y, or z will send you to hell.

The Bible doesn't teach that. Many unsaved people who have listened to Christians on the subject will say that they're going to hell because they practice such-and-such a sin. But that's not the way God operates.

God will not send you to hell because you masturbate.

God will not send you to hell because you have sex outside of marriage.

God will not send you to hell because you are homosexual.

God will not send you to hell because you are a murderer.

God will not send you to hell because you are a liar.

God will not send you to hell because you are a thief.

God sends people to hell because we are all sinful to the core, and we refuse God's gift of salvation. Focusing on the individual issues as what sends you to hell does no justice to the gospel.

What about blaspheming the Holy Spirit?

If you can tell me what that is, then we can address it. grin

Right. Sinners won’t go to hell because of what they do, but because of why they do it. If certain actions sent us to hell, no one could be saved, because even after salvation, no one is perfect. But yes, it is because we are “sinful to the core” that God is justified in condemning us to an eternity spent without him. I, for one, am extremely thankful that God has provided the only way to escape the punishment I so richly deserve.
