Hatred? I don’t think so.

There’s a certain combination of bumper stickers that really annoys me. The first one says “Hate is not a family value” and it is accompanied by either a rainbow sticker, or a rainbow sticker that says something like “diversity is our strength,” both indicating that homosexuality is what they have in mind.

What they are trying to say is “those people who make such a big deal about family values are wrong anyway because they hate gays.” What annoys me is that this is such a gross misrepresentation of the facts. What they refuse to recognize is that one can firmly believe that homosexuality is sin and/or repulsive and still not hate homosexuals. They are attempting to muddy the waters by misrepresenting the facts, and I believe they know exactly what they are doing.

Sadly, the established “religious right” treats this issue in such a way that they give the impression that they do hate homosexuals because their rhetoric is devoid of Christian love.
