Yup.
Stereotypes
So where did the whole stereotype that conservatives are coldhearted and liberals are compassionate come from?
The more I read by liberals, the more I think how absolutely nasty they are to anyone who disagrees with them in the slightest. I’m sure this is not true for all of them, but it’s not very “tolerant” or compassionate.
By contrast, while there are conservatives of the Rush Limbaugh stripe who are the same way, most conservatives I know are very compassionate.
I guess it just goes to show you can’t rely on stereotypes, as much as the liberals would like this one to stick. There are compassionate liberals and compassionate conservatives, just as much as there are jerks in both camps. In fact, the ratio in each camp is quite likely about the same.
Comments
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with strongly stating your opinions, regardless of your side. For instance, you make it clear that Rush Limbaugh is one of the “jerks” in the conservative camp. What makes him so? Name calling? Maybe calling people things like “jerk”?
We all do it. Ideally, we attack the ideology. However, sometimes people are just stoopid and it’s important to point that out, too.
One can state his point strongly and still be nice about it. Strongly stating a point doesn’t preclude compassion and care for other people.
