White Russian

While most of my experience with alcohol involves a variety of different beers, I have had the opportunity to try a most excellent beverage called the “White Russian.” There are some variations, but the most common recipes I’ve found are 1 part vodka, 1 part kahlua (or other coffee liqueur), and 3 parts milk; or equal parts vodka/kahlua/milk. My choice was the one with more milk, as I’m not one for going too heavy on the alcohol, as I like to have a nice balance between quantity and quality.P.S. If this seems a tad out of context, it’s because I’ve had it sitting as a draft for awhile and forgot to post it.

I’ll have to try that one.

My beverage would be wine. So far the best I’ve had is Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which though cheap, is better than a more expensive one I had before. Maybe I’m just a white wine guy...

Oh, and Vanilla Smirnoff in Coke: mmm, good. Use the original, clear Bacardi if that can’t be had.

Will admit, I’m a Malibu and Coke drinker. (Malibu is a coconut flavored rum, so if you don’t like coconut, you probably won’t like it!)

I’ve also been known to mix flavored carbonated water with Vodka. You have to have decent Vodka, though.

Nathan, have you tried a Reisling? It’s white, a bit fruitier than Zin. When drinking wine, I’m definitely a white wine type. Reislings can be found pretty cheap as well.

If you want to get a funny look from a bartender, ask them to shake equal parts of Baileys and Kahlua with ice and strain it out (so it’s cold, but you’re not battling ice cubes). Very tasty. Don’t know how John came up with that idea, but I’m glad he did!

John and I will be in Jamaica for 8 days in late February. I’m sure I’ll learn all sorts of new interesting and tasty drinks.

Add a spash of coke and you’ll turn your White Russian into a Colorado Bulldog! It’s an interesting twist!

White Russians are my favorite drink, although depending on my mood I may prefer a Black Russian (everything but the milk).

I just received a bottle of cognac from a friend coming back from a missions trip to Russia—tasty, but potent.
