I’m only starting with this book because I haven’t finished some of the other books I will probably end up recommending. While I know that they seem to be good books, I don’t want to be surprised by something after having recommended them.
Drinking with Calvin and Luther gives a good overview of the history of alcohol use in the church. It manages to be both serious and lighthearted at the same time. I think it is a helpful look at the fact that the current anti-alcohol attitude in much of the American Church is not the attitude that has been expressed by Christians throughout history.
